Germany Economy Grows 0.3% in Q2 as Recovery Gains Momentum

Germany's economy showed signs of renewed strength in the second quarter of 2026, providing a positive signal for Europe's largest economy.

German GDP grew 0.3% from the previous quarter, beating an earlier estimate of 0.2%. The economy had already expanded by 0.4% in the first quarter.

Exports were a major contributor to the latest growth, increasing by 2.0% as demand from international markets improved.

Business confidence also strengthened. Germany's Ifo business climate index rose to 88.8 in August, its highest level in a year.

However, the recovery still faces challenges. Domestic consumption and investment remain relatively weak, while higher energy prices and geopolitical risks could create additional pressure on businesses.

Germany is also planning significant infrastructure investment, with a €500 billion infrastructure fund expected to support economic activity.

The latest figures suggest that Germany's economy may be moving toward a more stable recovery, although businesses and policymakers still face considerable uncertainty.
