Bill Gates Warns of AI Risks and Calls for Global Rules

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is calling for greater international cooperation to manage the growing risks associated with artificial intelligence.

Gates is seeking discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping about creating international policies for advanced AI. He argues that countries should cooperate on monitoring some of the most dangerous capabilities of AI while allowing beneficial innovation to continue.

Among the concerns highlighted by Gates are cybersecurity threats, job displacement and the possibility that advanced AI could contribute to biological risks.

He has also suggested creating an international regulatory body for AI, similar in concept to international systems used for nuclear inspections and aviation safety.

The debate comes as AI development accelerates across technology companies and industries. While AI could increase productivity and create new opportunities, governments are facing growing pressure to establish responsible rules.

The question now is whether international cooperation can develop quickly enough to keep pace with increasingly powerful AI systems.
