China Keeps Key Lending Rates Unchanged as Economic Pressure Continues
China has kept its benchmark lending rates unchanged in September, maintaining the same rates for the 16th consecutive month.
The one-year Loan Prime Rate remains at 3.00%, while the five-year rate remains at 3.50%, according to a Reuters survey of market participants.
The decision reflects limited room for additional monetary easing as Chinese banks face pressure on their profit margins.
China’s economy continues to face challenges from weak property-sector activity, slower loan growth and cautious consumer spending.
Although some industrial sectors have shown signs of improvement, domestic demand remains an important concern for policymakers.

Global interest-rate developments are also influencing China’s monetary policy. A stronger U.S. interest-rate environment can increase pressure on capital flows and the exchange rate.
Analysts suggest that China may continue holding its lending rates steady unless economic growth weakens significantly.
However, policymakers could still consider additional support if property-sector difficulties, weak investment or subdued consumer demand become more severe.
China’s unchanged lending rates reflect the difficult balance between supporting economic growth and protecting financial-sector stability.
